Assemblage Thinking in Lockdown: An Autoethnographic Approach

Over the past year, COVID-19 and restrictions imposed in its wake have meant that a range of research methodologies involving social contact could no longer be pursued. Whilst this time has been challenging, article aims to showcase how it nonetheless presents opportunities for methodological innovation can carried forward into future. Drawing upon an autoethnographic dissertation sought conceptualize researcher’s lived experience Scotland’s lockdown as assemblage was situated within, intersected with, wider “lockdown cultural assemblage,” proceeds chronologically from began inductively drawn findings on shifts produced by across five interrelated dimensions experience: embodiment, spatiality, temporality, changing vocabulary sociality, narratological environment broader context. In recounting journey, demonstrates theory both benefit from, well transform, autoethnography primary strategy.
